Council Compass
Reflect. Grow. Be Recognized
Council Compass is AFLV's developmental assessment and recognition program for fraternity and sorority campus governing councils. Through guided reflection, councils have the opportunity to evaluate their work, celebrate their accomplishments, receive meaningful feedback, and be recognized for their impact.
Whether you're participating for the first time or returning to build on previous feedback, Council Compass is designed to support your council's continued growth.
How It Works
Council Compass invites councils to tell the story of their work during the current calendar year through narrative responses and supporting documentation.
Each submission is reviewed by trained volunteer reviewers who provide constructive feedback and evaluate applications for regional recognition.
The process is designed to help councils:
Reflect on accomplishments and challenges
Document impact
Identify opportunities for future growth
Celebrate success with the broader fraternity and sorority community
Directional Areas
This program evaluates councils across four core areas that contribute to a thriving fraternity and sorority community.
-

Accountability
How your council promotes responsibility, accountability, and high standards within the community it serves.
-

Collaboration
How your council builds meaningful partnerships with chapters, campus partners, and the broader community.
-

Education
How your council provides educational opportunities that support student development and community success.
-

Innovation
How your council demonstrates creativity, critical thinking, and new approaches to advancing fraternity and sorority life.
Levels of Achievement
The Council Compass uses a common application for all council types. Councils can work towards success at three levels:
One Star
Two Star
Three Star
Review the Submission Tips during an upcoming council meeting to determine which achievement level best reflects your council's work throughout the academic year. Every council's journey is different, and it's possible to achieve different levels across each of the four Council Compass categories.
Throughout the process, AFLV will provide resources, guidance, and educational materials to help your council prepare a strong submission. Our team is also available to answer questions and support you every step of the way.
Recognition at AFLV Conferences
Outstanding submissions are celebrated during the Saturday awards banquet at AFLV Central and AFLV West.
Recognition includes:
One Star: Recognition during the awards celebration.
Two Star: On-stage recognition and a certificate.
Three Star: On-stage recognition and an AFLV award trophy.
